A Laptop performs a wide range of functions that on hardware basis as well as software. A Processor performs a large number background processes which also uses more CPU usage & increases battery usage.
I sorted out some important points that can increase your battery performance:
- If you are not using any wireless network, put network switch off as some times network adapter eats up to half of the battery.
- Check your startup programs and processes that need much battery power.
To check your running processes type ALT + CTRL + DLT, which opens a window, click on ‘Start Task Manager’, then open ‘Processes’ tab. This step is not relevant for beginner computer users because ‘Image name’ or processes name are not easily understandable. A simple solution is Advanced System Care which shows processes with their program names and simple interface for terminating processes.
- Avoid multimedia operations like music or video playing which needs high amount of battery usage as playing of video need graphic hardware requirement as well as speaker usage.
- Set your laptop at less brightness level to increase your battery backup time.
- High resolution games needs a very high amount of graphic acceleration as well memory usage that can shut off your battery in less than a hour (for a laptop that has battery backup of 3-4 hours).
- Do not run bunch of programs simultaneously,
which use more battery usage. Using a single program is more reliable than using multiple programs at the same time.
- Keep your DVD drive empty when not in use, in standby mode when a disc is in DVD drive moves at a less speed, but less speed rotation of DVD drive also needs battery usage.
- Shut off webcam device & its program, when it is not in use. Most of laptop have dedicated key for closing webcam device.
- Keep your laptop volume mute as Windows or any other operating system sounds for every operation performed on your laptop.
- When using battery power always use power saver mode, by default power saver is used with relevant settings that decrease battery usage.
